WHY CHOOSE LANGTANG REGION TREK?

For many various reasons for choosing Langtang Region. In first place, it is the nearest mountain and Himalayan range from the capital Kathmandu.

A mere aerial distance of 35 km. approx. 22 miles from Kathmandu valley. 

Langtang Region is also on the Trans Himalayan Salt and Caravan Trade Route of Nepal and Tibet / China. It is about 110 km. / 68.3 miles driving distance to the main Dhunche Town, the headquarters of Rasuwa district. As well as Langtang Region, a short drive of 12 km. to Syabrubesi village, where most trekking begins and ends.

HOW LANGTANG REGION CHANGING?

Langtang Himal Region extends from Mid-West near Ganesh Himal with Langtang Himal range. The Langtang National boundary extends towards the eastern rim of Kathmandu valley near Sundarijal. 

Langtang Himal Region has changed since from early days when few adventurers and trekkers explored the region. The first explorer and pioneer were Bill Tillman, who was in search finding a route to Tibet across the border. 

Langtang National Park was established in 1976 as Nepal's first Himalayan national park and the country's fourth protected area. From then on, the motorable road from Kathmandu to Dhunche as far towards Ganesh Himal was constructed. Making it easier to visit the Langtang Himal's various destinations; the most popular of all trekking in Langtang Himal Range is scenic Langtang Valley.

Where Kyanjin Gompa located at 3,870 m / 12, 697 feet high, the area has changed dramatically. But the big earthquake of 2015 destroyed many of the villages on route Langtang valley and its surroundings. Lots of human life was lost, both locals and foreign trekkers, and the trail was badly affected.

But at present for the past few years, the trekking trail has been maintained and a new route built. New steady and strong bridges constructed, and more Tea-Houses and lodges have come up for the comfort of the trekkers.

The local traditional heritage, cultures, and beautiful scenic views remain as they were for the past hundreds of centuries.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME FOR LANGTANG HIMAL REGION TREKKING?

Like all Himalayas, Langtang Himal region is best to visit during spring and autumn/fall. One can also visit in winter times, during Christmas and New Year Holidays, when days are fine and clear.

Spring is the most favorable season beginning from March to May, days are longer with enough rays of sunshine. Cold morning, late afternoon, and nighttime. Can get snowed sometimes, even at the best time of the season. 

The other good season is autumn/fall, where most days are bright and beautiful for scenic walks. But days are much short due to sunlight hours, very cold morning, the late afternoon and night time. Can expect snowfall sometimes above 2,000 m.

WHAT ARE THE PERMITS REQUIRED FOR THE LANGTANG HIMAL REGION?

For all of Langtang Himal Region, except for peak and major mountaineering activities. Trekking permits are required. Includes Langtang National Park entry fees, for all trekkers, climbers, and mountaineers.

Interested trekkers for peak climbing and major mountain expeditions require climbing permits from respective departments. Likewise NMA (Nepal Mountaineering Association) and Tourism Department.

TIMS (Trekking Information Management Systems) has to be obtained from TAAN (Trekking Agent Association of Nepal). This will be done by your trekking agents in Kathmandu when booking the trek as per the itinerary and route chosen.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR LANGTANG HIMAL REGION TREKKING?

When booked for the chosen treks and itinerary days as per the route and destination chosen around Langtang Himal Region. The first thing is to collect all information and details from the agents booked with. Getting Visa at home country or on arrival at Kathmandu International Airport. Booking the shortest and the best route to Kathmandu by respective airlines; sending the advance trip cost, as per the rules of local agents in Kathmandu.

IS TRAVEL / MEDICAL INSURANCE REQUIRED FOR THE LANGTANG HIMAL REGION?

It is very important before leaving your country, all trekkers and for climbing various peaks need Medical and Travel Insurance. Which is for own safety in case of illness; or sudden unfortunate accidents. If this condition happens on treks and climbs, where patients need an immediate evacuation by any means of quick transportation.

The fastest is, using Helicopter services to reach Kathmandu, for further treatment. Where all extra expenses and medical bills are to be borne by oneself and claim through your concerned Insurance companies. 

HOW ARE THE ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES IN THE LANGTANG HIMAL REGION?

Most lodges en route from the start at Syabrubesi village are simple Tea Houses or lodges but have clean small rooms. Lama Hotel to Langtang Village, has simple and basic accommodations, mostly with common baths and toilets.

Reaching Kyanjin Gompa, options from a simple, standard class of accommodation comfort. Single rooms with attached bath to common toilets, with large warm dining rooms. But other places around Upper Syabru, Sing Gompa, Gosainkunda, and Ghopte to Kutumsang. Simple room accommodation with common toilets. Most lodges have large and warm dining rooms with a homely hospitable environment.

HOW ARE THE FOOD PROVIDED ON LANGTANG REGION TREKKING?

The foods around the Langtang Himal region are good with a homemade specialty. Visitors get surprised to find great meals, in such remote mountainous areas. The food at every lodge serves a nice breakfast, lunch, and dinner with various refreshing hot drinks.

The menu with a long list of foods in most large places from continental, Chinese, Indian to Tibetan and Nepali. Some lodge restaurants also serve fresh bakeries items. 

WHAT ARE THE FACILITIES FOR SAFE DRINKING WATER?

The facilities of safe drinking water are available in every lodge and restaurant. From boiled clean filtered water to bottled mineral water, it is best to buy boiled and filtered water. From the lodge that you spend overnight or lunch place, at extra cost as per liter wise. We do not encourage bottled water, as it creates extra garbage and all should follow responsible or eco-trekking norms. Bottled water can be much more expensive than buying normal boiled filtered water as you reach higher areas. We only recommend it for people who are sick and desperate from dehydration. 

DO WE NEED A GUIDE AND PORTERS FOR LANGTANG REGION TREK?

On mainstream trekking around the Langtang Himal region, one can trek solo as an individual trekker. But it is best to have a good local guide and a porter for safety and to enjoy the walks. As well as joining reliable local trekking agents in Kathmandu accompanied by Government Licensed guide.
