                                        Useful Information

Required Insurance for Lobuche East Peak Climb

The Lobuche East Peak climb insurance serves as an essential safety measure that extends beyond its administrative purpose. The 6,119-meter peak requires appropriate insurance because the Himalayan environment and ascent difficulties create safety hazards and financial risks.

Medical facilities in the Everest region are limited which forces emergencies to depend on helicopter evacuation as the only solution. The need for insurance arises because rescue operations can reach costs of thousands of dollars. This makes insurance an essential protection measure instead of an optional cost.

The insurance policy needs to provide coverage for activities that involve high-altitude trekking and climbing above 6,000 meters because standard travel insurance fails to meet this protection requirement.

The policy needs to include emergency helicopter evacuation which enables your swift transportation from isolated regions to medical centers located in Kathmandu or nearby city hospitals. It also should cover medical expenses like altitude sickness, injuries from falls, frostbite or hypothermia.

The coverage for trip interruption and delay combined with emergency repatriation protection serves as an essential requirement for travelers. You must check the altitude limits and helicopter evacuation coverage before you buy an insurance policy. Carry both digital and printed formats of the insurance policy and provide it to us.

The porters carry your main belongings while you trek with a minimal daypack which enables you to travel with less weight while you conserve energy for high-altitude sections of the trek and your ascent to the peak.

The expedition benefits from practical assistance because the guides and porters deliver local knowledge which helps to create a safer, more efficient and authentic experience for the journey.

Information on AMS and Precaution Measures

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is a common condition that affects trekkers and climbers at high altitudes, typically above 2,500 to 3,000 meters. It occurs when a person cannot adapt to lower oxygen availability.

This results in symptoms that range from mild discomfort like headache, nausea, dizziness, shortness of breath, disturbed sleep and fatigue to life-threatening conditions which include High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE) and High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE).

                                        Precaution Measures for AMS

                                        • Make a gradual ascent and follow the principle of “climb high, sleep low”. Your daily altitude gain should not exceed 300–500 meters after you reach 3,000 meters. Take rest days to acclimatize at locations like Namche Bazaar and Dingboche.

                                        • Stay well hydrated by drinking around 3 to 4 liters of water.  The consumption of alcohol and caffeine should be avoided as they lead to dehydration and increase the risk of altitude sickness.

                                        • Eat high-carbohydrate meals to maintain energy levels. The body finds heavy and fatty foods more difficult to digest if you eat them at high altitude.

                                        • Watch for early warning signs that include headache, nausea and unusual fatigue. The body requires rest and hydration to recover from mild AMS while immediate medical attention is necessary for severe symptoms.

                                        • You can use acetazolamide (Diamox) to speed up acclimatization. Always seek medical advice before taking any type of medication.

                                        • Take adequate rest and sleep to adjust to the altitude. The first day at a new higher elevation should not include strenuous activities.

                                        • Your travel insurance needs to provide coverage for high-altitude evacuation. Guides should be trained to identify AMS symptoms and execute proper emergency reactions.
